Tools for making Sourdough Bread
Let's talk about all tools that I find helpful for making bread.
When it comes to making sourdough and starting to make it people often rush and buy as many tools as they can believing they will help making better bread. Most of them are not really needed to start though and you can easily grow your tool collection over time and save money along the way to buy quality ones as getting everything at once will often lead to buying cheaper tools and we all should know by now that buying cheap can often lead to spending more over time. However I’ll tell you what tools you actually can buy for cheap and how to find them for much less money they normally cost.
But let’s start at the beginning. When making a starter you really only need a jar, a spoon, flour and water. That’s it. You can even use a glass or a cup and cover it with cling film, so there is really no excuse to not start. While you make your starter you’ll have a week or two to look into tools to get and look around your house what you might already have.
Making most sourdough bread usually includes 6 phases: mixing, ambient/bulk proofing, shaping, cold proofing, scoring and baking, so in this article we’ll look at those and what you need for each and where to get it.
